Dr Costas Constandinides – Film Scholar

Dr Costas Constandinides is Assistant Professor of Film Studies in the Department of Communications at the University of Nicosia. He holds a postgraduate degree and a doctorate degree from the University of Reading, UK (MA Film and Theatre Studies, 2003; PhD Film Studies, 2007) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Cyprus (BA in English Studies, 2002). He is the author of From Film Adaptation to Post-celluloid Adaptation (Continuum, 2010; Bloomsbury, 2012) and co-editor of Cypriot Cinemas: Memory, Conflict and Identity in the Margins of Europe (Bloomsbury, 2014). He is a member of the European Film Academy.

Ο Δρ. Κώστας Κωνσταντινίδης είναι Επίκουρος Καθηγητής Κινηματογραφικών Σπουδών στο Τμήμα Επικοινωνίας του Πανεπιστημίου Λευκωσίας. Κατέχει Μεταπτυχιακό και Διδακτορικό τίτλο από το University of Reading, UK (MA Film and Theatre Studies, 2003 και PhD Film Studies, 2007) και πτυχιακό τίτλο στις Αγγλικές Σπουδές από το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (2002). Είναι συγγραφέας του βιβλίου From Film Adaptation to Post-celluloid Adaptation (Continuum, 2010/Bloomsbury, 2012) και συνεπιμελητής του συλλογικού τόμου Cypriot Cinemas: Memory, Conflict, and Identity in the Margins of Europe (Bloomsbury, 2014). Marios Stylianou – Director/Producer

Marios Stylianou was born in 1962 in the now-occupied city of Famagusta. Son of well-known photographer, Nicos Stylianou, Marios grew up in a photographic environment, inspired on a daily basis by the art of Photography. He studied Photography and Cinema in the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne/Western Germany and completed his studies with a thesis on the creation of TV commercials.

In 1989, he established MS Viewpoint, a company specialising in the production of TV commercials. Since then, he continues to be widely present in the field, producing and directing famous and successful TV commercials for the Cypriot TV, broadcast both in Cyprus and abroad: in Greece, Lebanon, UAE, Russia, Malta, Germany and other European countries.

Among these commercials, seven TV advertisements were selected for the final stage of the London International Advertising Awards, and three others were among the finalists of the ERMIS Awards in Greece. Throughout his career, he has produced TV commercials for the most important institutions and organisations in Cyprus, collaborated with various private companies and taught photography and video production in Europa College, Cyprus College and Intercollege. Since 2012, he has been giving lectures at the University of Nicosia in the Design and Multimedia Department, where he teaches Production of TV Commercials, as well as Digital Cinematography in the Communications Department of the same university.

Ο Μάριος Στυλιανού γεννήθηκε το 1962 στη σήμερα κατεχόμενη πόλη της Αμμοχώστου. Γιος του φημισμένου φωτογράφου της πόλης, Νίκου Στυλιανού, μεγάλωσε βιώνοντας καθημερινά την τέχνη της Φωτογραφίας. Σπούδασε Φωτογραφία και Κινηματογράφο στο Πολυτεχνείο της Κολωνίας/Δυτικής Γερμανίας, ολοκληρώνοντας τις σπουδές του με μία πτυχιακή εργασία με θέμα την τηλεοπτική διαφήμιση.

Το 1989, ίδρυσε την εταιρεία παραγωγής τηλεοπτικών διαφημίσεων MS Viewpoint. Έκτοτε, εξακολουθεί να σκηνοθετεί επιτυχημένες και γνωστές τηλεοπτικές διαφημίσεις για την κυπριακή τηλεόραση, ορισμένες από τις οποίες έχουν προβληθεί εκτός από την Κύπρο και σε Ελλάδα, Λίβανο, Ενωμένα Αραβικά Εμιράτα, Ρωσία, Μάλτα, Γερμανία και άλλες ευρωπαϊκές χώρες.

Επτά από τα διαφημιστικά αυτά προκρίθηκαν στους φιναλίστ των Διεθνών Βραβείων Διαφημίσεων του Λονδίνου (London International Advertising Awards), ενώ άλλα τρία συγκαταλέχθηκαν ανάμεσα στις διαφημίσεις-φιναλίστ των Βραβείων Ermis στην Ελλάδα. Συνεργάστηκε με όλους σχεδόν τους μεγάλους οργανισμούς της Κύπρου, καθώς και με άλλες εμπορικές εταιρείες. Δίδαξε κατά περιόδους φωτογραφία και παραγωγή βίντεο στα κολέγια Europa, Cyprus College & Intercollege. Από το 2012, διδάσκει Παραγωγή Τηλεοπτικών Διαφημίσεων στο Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας στον κλάδο Εφαρμοσμένων Πολυμέσων, ενώ από το 2014 διδάσκει επίσης Ψηφιακό Κινηματογράφο στον κλάδο Επικοινωνίας του Πανεπιστημίου Λευκωσίας.

Tonia Mishiali – Director

Tonia’s love for the moving image from an early age, led her to pursue her dream and become a filmmaker. She studied Media Production in the UK and then moved back to Cyprus to start working as a director and producer, also creating her own production company.

She loves experimenting with different mediums- she has directed and produced for theatre, film, video and television in Cyprus and abroad, dealing with a variety of subjects and adopting original approaches. She has exhibited her work in museums abroad and participated in a big number of national and international film and performance festivals. Her short film “Dead End” premiered at the 66th Locarno Film Festival and won numerous awards (including two for “Best Director”). It was also officially selected at more than 40 International Film Festivals such as Palm Springs, Drama, Cork, Busan, Curta Cinema and Encounters. Her latest short film “Lullaby of the butterfly” premiered at Sarajevo Film Festival and won Best National Film and Best Cinematography Awards at The International Short Film Festival of Cyprus. It was also officially selected in numerous International Film Festivals including Encounters, Dresden and Drama. She is now developing her debut feature film “Menopause”.

In October 2014, she was appointed member of the Artistic Committee of Cyprus Film Days International Festival by the Ministry of Eduction and Culture. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Directors Guild of Cyprus since January 2014 and is alumnus of the Berlinale Talents 2016.

Η αγάπη της Τώνιας για τον κινηματογράφο από μικρή ηλικία την ώθησε να γίνει σκηνοθέτης. Σπούδασε Media Production στην Αγγλία και έπειτα επέστρεψε στην Κύπρο όπου άρχισε να δουλεύει ως Σκηνοθέτης/Παραγωγός, δημιουργώντας επίσης και τη δική της εταιρεία παραγωγής.

Της αρέσει να πειραματίζεται με διαφορετικά μέσα- έχει σκηνοθετήσει για τον κινηματογράφο, το θέατρο, το βίντεο και την τηλεόραση, στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό, ενώ ασχολείται με ποικίλα θέματα, προσεγγίζοντας τα με πρωτοτυπία. Έχει παρουσιάσει τη δουλειά της σε μουσεία στο εξωτερικό και έχει λάβει μέρος σε ένα μεγάλο αριθμό εθνικών και διεθνών φεστιβάλ κινηματογράφου και παραστατικών τεχνών. Η μικρού μήκους ταινία της Dead End έκανε την Παγκόσμια της πρεμιέρα στο 66ο Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου του Λοκάρνο λαμβάνοντας μέρος στο επίσημο διαγωνιστικό του τμήμα, και έχει κερδίσει διάφορα βραβεία, συμπεριλαμβανομένων δύο για “καλύτερη σκηνοθεσία”. Η ταινία έχει επιλεγεί για τα επίσημα διαγωνιστικά τμήματα πέραν των 40 Διεθνών Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου όπως τα Palm Springs, Δράμας, Cork, Busan, Curta Cinema and Encounters. Η επόμενη της ταινία μικρού μήκους “Το νανούρισμα της πεταλούδας” έχει επιλεγεί επίσημα για το Διαγωνιστικό τμήμα του Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου του Σαράγεβο για την παγκόσμια πρεμιέρα της και έχει κερδίσει τα βραβεία Καλύτερης Κυπριακής Ταινίας και Καλύτερης Διεύθυνσης Φωτογραφίας στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ταινιών Μικρού Μήκους Κύπρου. Έχει επίσης επιλεγεί για τα διαγωνιστικά τμήματα πέραν των 15 Διεθνών Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου όπως τα Encounters, Dresden, Δράμας. Τώρα βρίσκεται στο στάδιο ανάπτυξης της πρώτης της ταινίας μεγάλου μήκους “Εμμηνόπαυση”.

Τον Οκτώβριο του 2014 διορίστηκε ως μέλος της καλλιτεχνικής επιτροπής του Cyprus Film Days International Festival από το Υπουργείο Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού. Είναι επίσης μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Ένωσης Σκηνοθετών Κύπρου από τον Ιανουάριο του 2014 και είναι απόφοιτη του Berlinale Talents 2016.
