Award-Winning Director Nadav Lapid In Cyprus For The Screening Of “Yes”

The Cyprus Film Days International Festival 2026 welcomes to Cyprus one of the most significant and radical voices of contemporary world cinema. Nadav Lapid, the internationally acclaimed director, screenwriter and author whose work has been recognised at major international festivals including Cannes, will attend the festival for the screening of his latest film, Yes (2025).

Born in Tel Aviv and based in Paris in recent years, Lapid has established himself as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of contemporary cinema. His work is characterised by strong political reflection, a deeply personal cinematic language and a constant questioning of national and ideological identities.

His feature films have been honoured at some of the world’s most important film festivals. The Kindergarten Teacher(2014), Synonyms (2019), Ahed’s Knee (2021) and Yes (2025) have received major distinctions at the Cannes, Berlin and Locarno film festivals, firmly establishing Lapid as a filmmaker with a powerful artistic voice and international influence.

His work has also been presented in numerous retrospectives at major festivals and film institutions worldwide. Lapid himself has served as a member of international juries at the Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Locarno film festivals, reflecting both his deep understanding of cinematic language and his engagement with the political dimension of the moving image.

Lapid’s films frequently move between fiction and autobiography, exploring themes of power, homeland, violence and personal responsibility. Through a sharp aesthetic approach and bold narrative choices, he continues to expand the boundaries of contemporary cinema.

The Film “Yes”

In his latest film Yes, which will be screened out of competition, Nadav Lapid returns with a daring and deeply political cinematic work that examines the contradictions of contemporary society and the relationship between the individual, power, ideology and public image.

Through an intensely personal and provocative cinematic language, the film follows an artist who is forced to navigate the tension between personal conscience and the pressures of a system that demands conformity. As personal and political choices collide, Yes becomes a sharp reflection on the responsibility of the artist, the meaning of consent and the limits of freedom of expression.

The film is a co-production with the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, with the Cypriot production company AMP Filmworks participating as co-producer.
