The great German actor Udo Kier has passed away, one of the most distinctive and enigmatic figures of European and American cinema. With a career spanning more than two hundred films and collaborations with creators such as Lars von Trier, Werner Herzog, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Gus Van Sant, Kier left his mark on arthouse cinema for decades, embodying dark, eccentric, yet always unforgettable characters.
Udo Kier served as President of the International Jury of the Cyprus Film Days – International Festival in 2019, lending prestige and international visibility to the event. On that occasion, he was also honoured with the Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
His collaboration with the festival and his presence in Limassol left a small but essential legacy: a reminder that good cinema knows no borders, and that the personality of a great artist can illuminate even the smallest of stages.
The International Film Festival Cinema Days bids him farewell with gratitude.
His memory and his work will continue to inspire creators and audiences around the world.
