Το κινηματογραφικό φεστιβάλ της Άνοιξης επιστρέφει
Τι θα δούμε φέτος στο τμήμα Viewfinder – Ματιές στον Σύγχρονο Διεθνή Κινηματογράφο!
Νέες ταινίες, μουσικές εκδηλώσεις, ένα πολυσυλλεκτικό παράλληλο πρόγραμμα, εργαστήρια και πολλά άλλα μάς επιφυλάσσει και φέτος το 12ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου «Κινηματογραφικές Μέρες – Κύπρος 2014» που επιστρέφει στις αίθουσες του Θεάτρου Ριάλτο και του Κινηματογράφου Zena Palace, από τις 4 μέχρι και τις 13 Απριλίου 2014.
Το «Κινηματογραφικές Μέρες – Κύπρος 2014» αποτελεί τον επίσημο θεσμό για τη μεγάλου μήκους ταινία μυθοπλασίας στην Κύπρο και φέρνει το κινηματογραφικό έργο νέων και καθιερωμένων δημιουργών από τον παγκόσμιο ανεξάρτητο κινηματογράφο πιο κοντά στο κυπριακό κοινό.
Tη διοργάνωση αναλαμβάνουν οι Πολιτιστικές Υπηρεσίες του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού και το Θέατρο Ριάλτο και θέτουν σαν στόχο την προώθηση του παγκόσμιου και του κυπριακού κινηματογράφου.
Τα δύο βασικά προγράμματα του φεστιβάλ θα είναι και φέτος το Glocal Images (Διεθνές Διαγωνιστικό Τμήμα) και το Viewfinder (Ματιές στο Σύγχρονο Διεθνή Κινηματογράφο). Όλες οι ταινίες των τμημάτων Glocal Images και Viewfinder προβάλλονται για πρώτη φορά στην Κύπρο.
Την ευθύνη για την επιλογή των ταινιών, τον καταρτισμό του προγράμματος προβολών και των παράλληλων εκδηλώσεων έχει τριμελής Καλλιτεχνική Επιτροπή, η οποία αποτελείται από τους Άδωνη Φλωρίδη (σκηνοθέτη), Δρα. Κώστα Κωνσταντινίδη (Ακαδημαϊκό), και Κωνσταντίνο Σαρκά (Δημοσιογράφο).
Tο μη διαγωνιστικό τμήμα του Φεστιβάλ Viewfinder περιλαμβάνει ταινίες που έχουν διακριθεί κατά τη διάρκεια της φεστιβαλικής χρονιάς, και προβάλλονται κατόπιν επιλογής της Καλλιτεχνικής Επιτροπής, με κοινό χαρακτηριστικό τη δημιουργική ανάγκη και την προώθηση της κριτικής σκέψης.
Αναλυτικά, στο πρόγραμμα του Viewfinder θα δούμε φέτος την ταινία On my way, της Emmanuelle Bercot, στην οποία πρωταγωνιστεί η κορυφαία ηθοποιός Catherine Deneuve, που υποδύεται μια 60άχρονη γυναίκα στη μάταιη προσπάθειά της να ξεφύγει από όσα τη συνδέουν με το παρελθόν. Για τους φανατικούς του Jim Jarmusch και όχι μόνο, το φεστιβάλ προβάλλει την πιο πρόσφατη ταινία του με τίτλο Only Lovers Left Alive, μια ερωτική ιστορία με πρωταγωνιστές δύο βαμπίρ. Στην ταινία πρωταγωνιστούν οι Tom Hiddleston και Tilda Swinton. Ο προκλητικός σκηνοθέτης Lukas Moodyson από τη Σουηδία μάς παρουσιάζει μια feelgood εφηβική πανκ ταινία, το We are the best, στην οποία τρεις νεαρές κοπέλες αποφασίζουν να φτιάξουν ένα πανκ γκρουπ για να εκδικηθούν ένα φασαριόζικο χέβι μέταλ γκρουπ μεγαλύτερων τους εφήβων.
Η δεύτερη παλαιστινιακή ταινία που προτάθηκε ποτέ για Όσκαρ ξενόγλωσσης ταινίας Omar, του Hany Abu-Assad, αποτελεί ένα πολιτικό θρίλερ και μια ιστορία αγάπης η οποία εκτυλίσσεται κάτω από τις πιο αντίξοες συνθήκες. Bραβεύτηκε στο Ενα Κάποιο Βλέμμα του Φεστιβάλ Καννών. To Pelo Malo (Βad Hair) από τη Βενεζουέλα, της Mariana Rondon, που απέσπασε το βραβείο Golden Shell στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου του Σαν Σεμπαστιάν, παρουσιάζει την ιστορία ενός 9άχρονου αγoριού με μπούκλες, που θέλει να ισιώσει τα μαλλιά του στην προσπάθειά του να μοιάσει με μακρυμάλλη τραγουδιστή. Μέσα από τον κοινωνικό ρεαλισμό που τη χαρακτηρίζει, η ταινία στέλνει ένα ηχηρό μήνυμα για τη διαφορετικότητα.
To Eastern Boys, του Robin Campillo, καταπιάνεται με το θέμα του πληρωμένου έρωτα ως τρόπο επιβίωσης για τους νεαρούς μετανάστες από την Ανατολική Ευρώπη, που καταφθάνουν παράνομα στη Γαλλία για να αναζητήσουν μια καλύτερη ζωή. H ιρανική ταινία Manuscripts Don’t Burn, του Μοχάμαντ Ρασούλοφ, που κέρδισε το βραβείο της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Κριτικών Κινηματογράφου στο Φεστιβάλ Καννών, παρακολουθεί την παράλληλη ζωή δυο αντρών, ενός συγγραφέα που του απαγορεύεται η έκδοση του νέου του βιβλίου κι ενός πατέρα που γίνεται πληρωμένος δολοφόνος για να πληρώσει το απαραίτητο χειρουργείο του γιου του. Με μια πλοκή εμφανώς συμβολική, ο σκηνοθέτης εκθέτει την πολιτική κατάσταση στην χώρα του. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι, όπως και στην περίπτωση των συμπατριωτών του σκηνοθετών, στον Ρασούλοφ απαγορεύτηκε από την Ιρανική κυβέρνηση να ασκεί το επάγγελμα του σκηνοθέτη και το έργο του υποβάλλεται σε λογοκρισία, όπως και οι περισσότερες ιρανικές ταινίες που καταπιάνονται με θέματα ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων.
Στο φεστιβάλ θα δούμε επίσης την ίσως πιο πολυσυζητημένη ελληνική ταινία της χρονιάς, το Miss Violence, σε σκηνοθεσία Αλέξανδρου Αβρανά, η οποία κέρδισε στο Φεστιβάλ Βενετίας το βραβείο σκηνοθεσίας και ανδρικής ερμηνείας. Την ημέρα των γενεθλίων της η 11χρονη Αγγελική αυτοκτονεί πηδώντας από το μπαλκόνι. Η αστυνομία και η κοινωνική πρόνοια προσπαθούν να βρουν την αιτία, η οποία κρύβεται πίσω από τα επικίνδυνα μυστικά της οικογένειάς της. Η ταινία Club Sandwich του βραβευμένου σκηνοθέτη Fernando Eimbcke από το Μεξικό, συνθέτει μια ιστορία ενηλικίωσης με πρωταγωνιστές δύο εφήβους, τη μητέρα του ενός και ένα καλοκαίρι που θα τους ωθήσει να ανακαλύψουν τη σεξουαλικότητά τους.

Cyprus Film Days premieres this Springtime
What’s on in the Viewfinder Section : A Close-up of Contemporary International Cinema
New releases, music events, a multi-dimensional parallel programme, workshops and much more compose this year’s programme of the 12th edition of Cyprus Film Days- International Film Festival 2014. The festival will take place at the Rialto Theatre and Zena Palace Cinema from the 4th to the 13th April 2014.
The Festival, which is the official feature film festival of Cyprus, aspires to become a meeting point for cinema professionals from the three continents surrounding the island of Cyprus, by exploring the limits and perspectives of cinema today. Cyprus Film Days has been established as the most successful film festival which promotes the feature fiction film in Cyprus, bringing international cinema closer to the local audience.
The Festival is co-organised by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and Rialto Theatre, and aims to promote international and Cypriot cinema, support and screen the films of emerging directors alongside established names of the cinema scene.
The two main festival programmes are the international competition programme Glocal Images and the non- competitive section entitled Viewfinder. All the films included in Glocal Images and Viewfinder programmes are Cyprus premieres.
The selection of films and programming of screenings and parallel events, is undertaken by a three-member Artistic Committee, consisting of Adonis Florides (film director), Dr. Costas Constandinides (Film Scholar), and Constantinos Sarkas (Journalist).
Viewfinder showcases films that have been awarded throughout the festival year and have been selected for screening according to criteria set by the Artistic Committee. Their common characteristic remains their approach to creativity and the advancement of critical thought.
More specifically, Viewfinder will showcase the following films this year:
On my way, by Emmanuelle Bercot, starring stunning actress Catherine Deneuve as a 60 year old woman striving to get away from whatever connects her to her past. For Jim Jarmusch fans, the Festival will be screening his latest film Only Lovers Left Alive, a love story between two vampires, starring Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton. Provocative film director Lukas Moodyson from Sweden presents the feelgood teenage punk film, We are the best, in which three young teenagers decide to form a punk group in order to get revenge from a heavy metal group formed by their slightly older teenage schoolmates.
The second Palestinean film ever to be nominated for Academy Award in Best Foreign Language Film, Omar, by Hany Abu-Assad, is a political thriller and a love story set in one of the world’s most dramatic conflict zones. The film won the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival.
Pelo Malo (Βad Hair) from Venezuela, by Mariana Rondon, winner of the Golden Shell Award at San Sebastian film festival, tells the intimate story of a nine-year old child’s initiation to life and his difficult journey marked by intolerance.
Eastern Boys, by Robin Campillo, is centred around the theme of male prostitution as the only way to survival for young immigrants from Eastern Europe, who illegally arrive in Paris in search of a better future. Iranian film Manuscripts Don’t Burn, by Mohammad Rasoulof, won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. It tells the story of a day in the life of two low-level state enforcers, as they drive into the snowy mountains north of Tehran on a murky mission to interrogate and kidnap a dissident writer. Within this thriller framework, the multi-strand narrative also exposes the reality of the political status of the Iranian authorities that violate human rights. It is important to note that Rasoulof was banned from making films, like many of his Iranian compatriots and his work is constantly censored, like most Iranian films dealing with human rights issues.
The Festival will also be screening perhaps the most talked about Greek film of the year, Miss Violence, directed by Alexandros Avranas, which won Best Directing and Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. On the day of her birthday, eleven-year-old Angeliki jumps off the balcony and falls to her death. While the police and Social Services try to discover the reason for this apparent suicide, Angeliki’s family keep insisting that it was an accident. What is the secret that young Angeliki took with her?
Club Sandwich, from Mexico, by awarded film director Fernando Eimbcke is a coming-of-age comedy. While vacationing at a beachside resort, a single mother faces inevitable separation anxiety when her 15-year-old son — who is also her best friend — discovers magical chemistry with a girl his own age.
