• On The Milky Road, Σκην. Emir Kusturica, (Σερβία, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, ΗΠΑ)
• Little Golden Lion στο Φεστιβάλ Βενετίας 2016 κ.ά.

• Manchester by the Sea, Σκην. Kenneth Lonergan, (Η.Π.Α.)

• The Salesman, Σκην. Asghar Farhadi (Ιράν, Γαλλία)

Julia Ducournau (Γαλλία, Βέλγιο)

Pablo Larraín (Χιλή, Αργεντινή, Γαλλία)

Πρωταγωνιστεί ο Gael Garcia Bernal (Y tu maman tambien, Amores Perros).

• The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki, Σκην. Juho Kuosmanen, (Φινλανδία, Σουηδία, Γερμανία)

Ο πρωτοεμφανιζόμενος Φινλανδός σκηνοθέτης Juho Kuosmanen, ακολουθεί την αληθινή ιστορία του ομοεθνή του μπόξερ Olli Mäki και την ιστορία του αγώνα του ενάντια στον Αμερικανό Davey Moore, το 1962. Καθώς ο Mäki προπονείται για τον μεγάλο του αγώνα, θα γνωρίσει απροσδόκητα και τον μεγάλο του έρωτα. Θα είναι η επιτυχία ή ο έρωτας που θα σημαδέψει την πιο ευτυχισμένη μέρα στη ζωή του Olli Mäki;

• The Student, Σκην. Kirill Serebrennikov (Ρωσία)

Your Springtime rendezvous with awarded feature films
from contemporary world cinema is approaching

The 15th Cyprus Film Days International Festival 2017, to take place between the 27th April and the 6th of May at the Rialto Theatre, in Limassol and the Zena Palace Cinema in Nicosia, is delighted to announce the programme of films to be screened out of competition. All the films are Cyprus premieres.

The Festival will showcase fiction feature films by established directors as well as first-time directors, who have won important awards at international film festivals, and have thrilled audiences and critics with their cinematic approch.

The films screening at this year’s “Viewfinder – A Close Up of Contemporary International Cinema” section of the Festival are the following:

• On The Milky Road, Dir. Emir Kusturica, (Serbia, U.K., U.S.A.)
• Little Golden Lion Venice Film Festival 2016 etc.

Twice a winner of the Cannes Film Festival’s top Palme d’Or prize Emir Kusturica (The Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, Black Cat, White Cat), presents a film about war, love and solitude. On the Milky Road stars the director himself, as well as the Italian screen icon Monica Bellucci. As stated in the introductory text, the film is “based on three true stories and many fantasies”. Kusturica himself plays the role of a man in three different phases in life: amidst a war zone, in his days of love with an Italian spy, and during his days of solitude as a monk. An exclusive film, signed by a remarkable director, who has offered world-class films to contemporary European cinema since the eighties.

• Manchester by the Sea, Dir. Kenneth Lonergan, (U.S.A.)
• Academy Award Winner for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Best Original Screenplay, Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, BAFTA Film Award for Best Leading Actor and Best Screenplay (Original) etc.

The film follows the life of a solitary Boston janitor as it is transformed when he returns to his hometown to take care of his teenage nephew. From the Oscars to the Golden Globes, Casey Affleck, has impressed with his acting in the leading role of the janitor.

• The Salesman, Dir. Asghar Farhadi (Iran, France)
• Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year 2016, Best Actor and Best Screenplay at Cannes Film Festival etc.

Inspired by Arthur Miller’s theatre play “Death of a Salesman”, Asghar Farhadi (A Separation) returns with a domestic drama and a personal tale that sheds light on the social structures that prevail in conservative Iran. After their old f flat becomes damaged, a young couple living in Tehran, are forced to move into a new apartment. Eventually, an incident linked to the previous tenant of their new home dramatically changes the couple’s life.Keeping with his naturalistic style, Farhadi makes a commentary on manlihood and the role of the woman-victim in an ever-changing Iran.

• Raw, Dir. Julia Ducournau (France, Belgium)
• FIPRESCI Directors’ Fortnight or Critics’ Week 2016 etc.

In her directorial debut, Julia Ducournau, follows an incident in the life of young Justine, a promising student and sworn vegetarian when she is forced to try raw meat for the first time in her life. Unexpected consequences follow as her true self begins to emerge, in the framework of a feministic, coming-of- age drama.

• Neruda, Dir. Pablo Larraín (Chile, Argentina, France)
• Nominated for Golden Globe in Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language

When Chilean poet Pablo Neruda is named an enemy of the state in post- WWII Chile for his communist leanings, a determined investigator launches a search to apprehend him. Pablo Larraín (Jackie, No), who is considered amongst the most promising Chilean directors of our times, presents a film that moves away from stereotypical biography dramas, in which the life episodes of the great poet, pop out of his imagination, intertwined with reality. Starring Gael Garcia Bernal (Y tu maman tambien, Amores Perros).

• The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki, Dir. Juho Kuosmanen, (Finland, Sweden, Germany)
• «Un Certain Regard Award» Cannes Film Festival, European Discovery of the Year at the European Film Awards etc.

Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen makes his feature debut with The Happiest Day In The Life Of Olli Maki, based on the true story of the Finnish boxer Olli Mäki who has a shot at the world championship in boxing in 1962, but is more preoccupied with the love of his life, Raija. Will it be his professional success or his passionate love that will mark the happiest day in the life of Olli Mäki?

• The Student, Dir. Kirill Serebrennikov (Russia)
• François Chalais Award, Nominated for «Un Certain Regard Award» Cannes Film Festival etc.

Kirill Serebrennikov’s new film, following his Betrayal, is a study of a problem teenager’s religious awakening, placed in contemporary Russia. Schoolboy Veniamin is convinced that the world is stuck fast in a mire of lies and depravity and that he alone knows how to make things right. Armed with quotations from the Bible and an awareness of his role as the Chosen One, he sets out to discipline a humanity that has gone astray.
