20th CYPRUS FILM DAYS International Festival 2022

20th CYPRUS FILM DAYS International Festival 2022

8 – 16th April

Rialto Theatre, Limassol – Zena Palace, Nicosia

Critically acclaimed films, cinematic gems that received awards and distinctions at some of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, innovative voices of Cinema, distinguished filmmakers, as well as newly released Cypriot film productions make up the main programme of this celebratory 20th edition of Cyprus Film Days International Festival 2022.

The most important annual film event of Cyprus provides an overview of the most revolutionary and innovative cinema of our time, whilst showcasing the diversity of the current film trends.

In this edition, the Viewfinder out-of-competition section includes six much-anticipated films that have already received multiple awards during the past year, and which reflect the current trends in the international film festival circuit: Belfast by Kenneth Branagh, Compartment No. 6 by Juho Kuosmanen, The Worst Person in the World by Joachim Trier, Pleasure by Ninja Thyberg, Lamb by Valdimar Jóhannsson and Brighton 4th by Levan Koguashvili.

The three Artistic Directors of Cyprus Film Days have selected this year an inclusive International Competition Section (Glocal Images), as well as four films made by Cypriot directors, two of which are also competing in the International Competition Section.

The seven international films participating in the festival’s official ‘Glocal Images’ competition section are the following: Sisterhood by Dina Duma, Yuni by Kamila Andini, Utama by Alejandro Loayza Grisi, Celts by Milica Tomović, Nuuccha by Vladimir Munkuev, Broadway by Christos Massalas and 107 Mothers by Peter Kerekes. Two Cypriot productions also participate in this section, namely The Man with the Answers by Stelios Kammitsis and .dog by Yianna Americanou, thus compiling the ‘Cypriot Films Competition Section’ together with Petros Charalambous’ Patchwork and Christoforos Roditis’ The Rose Valley

This 2022 edition also hosts a parallel programme featuring two recent film productions from Israel (Africa by Oren Gerner and All Eyes Off Me by Hadas Ben Aroya), a collaboration between Cyprus Film Days IFF and Cinema South Film Festival of Israel, and Israel Cinema Project – Rabinovich Foundation.

The partnership between Cyprus Film Days and Cinema South Film Festival began with the ‘Focus on Cypriot Cinema’ section and the ‘Get to know the Neighbors’ panel featured at last year’s Cinema South edition, where an official delegation from Cyprus had the opportunity to provide an overview of the development of the creative audiovisual sector in Cyprus. The following Cypriot films were selected and screened as part of the focus on Cypriot Cinema: Pause (Tonia Mishiali), Senior Citizen (Marinos Kartikkis), Smuggling Hendrix (Marios Piperides), Siege on Liperti Street (Stavros Pamballis).

The detailed programme of screenings and events is available on the Festival’s website at: www.cyprusfilmdays.com.
